The 32nd International Conference on Metallurgy and Materials METAL 2023 took place in Brno on 17-19 May 2023. Almost 180 participants from 21 countries listened to 65 lectures and viewed 86 posters.
The conference was opened by Assoc. Prof. Christian Bernhard, a head of a steel cleanness and casting research group in Department for Metallurgy, Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria. He dedicated his lecture to the topic of Continuous Casting of Steel: Latest achievements and future challenges for research. The second plenary lecture was given by Jožef Medved, professor at the Department for Materials and Metallurgy, Faculty for Natural Science and Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The lecture dealt with the Aluminium – Sustainable Material of Green Transition.
However, the thematic scope of the conference lectures was traditionally much broader. Researchers presented innovations not only in the fields of advanced iron, cast iron, steelmaking, non-ferrous metals and alloys, metal forming and surface engineering, but also in the economics and management of metallurgical production.
The prize for the best poster has been awarded to Alexandr Arbuz from Nazarbayev University in Temirtau (Kazakhstan). In his work, he presented FEM-Simulation of Transverse Defect Closure in Austenitic Stainless Steel by Radial Shear Rolling.
The Czech Association of Scientific and Technical Societies awards the prize for the best poster presentation in the student category to Zuzana Košelová from Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS, Czech Republic, for her poster on Functional Tungsten-Based Thin Films and Their Characterization.
The next 33rd METAL conference will take place on May 22 - 24, 2024.
